Columbia High School students discovered how to use their breath, bodies, eyes, faces and voices to communicate effectively on the stage and in real life.  Actress Serena Ebhardt from EbzB Productions introduced the students to the tools of an actor in classes held at the high school on February 27, 2012.  Through demonstration, observation, lecture, warm-up and practice, the students explored ways to mix and match their communication tools in order to send the perfect message to their audience.  This training is not only useful in real-life communications, but will be mandatory for their upcoming participation in a performance of Myth-Understandings.  Myth-Understandings is the drama that the students have created from interviews they collected from Tyrrell County residents.  It will be performed for the school and the public in March 2012.

Interviews

Columbia High School students have gone into their community and conducted interviews with citizens at least two generations older.  They have collected personal stories and recollections of the myths, ghosts, and legends of Tyrrell County.  The students said they learned a lot from their elders and actually enjoyed the process of meeting and interviewing people with whom they wouldn't normally communicate.  The interviews are filled with details about Tyrrell County's geography, history, legends, families, news and heritage.

Columbia High School Students Introduced to Drama Created From Oral Histories.

Columbia High School students were introduced to a drama created from oral histories when they saw a live performance of War Bonds by EbzB Productions on January 24, 2012.  The play told the history of World War II through the words of actual veterans and their families.  The letters were interspersed with popular songs from the time.  Students watched the drama in preparation for creating their own production based on oral histories from citizens of Tyrrell County.
